Gratefulness...

This being human is a guest house.

Every morning a new arrival.

A joy, a depression, a meaness,

some momentary awareness comes

as an unexpected visitor.

Welcome and entertain all!

Even if they're a crowd of sorrows,

who violently sweep your house

empty of its furniture,

still, treat each guest honorably.

He may be clearing you out

for some new delight.

The dark thought, the shame, the malice,

meet them at the door laughing,

and invite them in.

Be grateful for whomever comes,

because each has been sent,

as a guide from beyond.

One of my favorites! I have it posted on my mirror so I can read it every morning as a reminder to embrace everything that comes into my life that day - to actually "invite them in." HA! Easier said than done! :) The challenge seems to be to stay open and curious - wanting to hear their message - to receive the gift of their presence...

Thank you for the poem!

I'm glad this resonated with all of you...I love Rumi and would have loved to have met him.

As part of my morning contemplation, prayer time, I am thankful for the day and everything in it. As MeANderi says...it is a challenge to remain open and curious to each guest as it arrives to sail through your window or perch on your doorsill, waiting to be invited in.

Life is nothing but curious...even in those time of mystery.

A'Ho!
