As an owner of a Yahoo Group it is a delight to be able to share some of our innermost thoughts with those of like mind so I implemented The Talking Stick for the Sisters to share....
I thought today I'd blog about one of my postings to my group Awakening Sisters....
Be Loved!
Strange is our situation here upon earth. Each of us comes for a short visit, not knowing why, yet seeming to divine a purpose. From the standpoint of daily life, however, there is one thing we do know: that we are here for the sake of others...above all, for those upon whose smile and well-being our own happiness depends, and also for the countless unknown souls with whose fate we are connected by the bond of sympathy. Many times a day I realize how much my own inner and outer life is built upon the labors of my fellow human beings, both living and dead, and how earnestly I must exert myself in order to give in return as much as I have received and am still receiving.
~Albert Einstein, Living Philosophies~
You survived as a child because others helped to maintain your life. It continues to be true today, even when you think you are abandoned, rejected, neglected, and unloved: the tomatoes you eat sustain you, the crossing guard stops the traffic so you can get to the other side of the street, the diner offered to you on clean white plates nourishes you, the papaer on which these words are printed informs you. Noticed or ignored, this web of others protects and holds you and makes it possible for you to make a difference: to take what came to you as seed and pass it on as blossom, and what came as blossom and ripen it to fruit.
Follow your own fingerprints. There they are on a child's forehead who feels safe enough to dream. And there they are on the bread that will be a young girl's breakfast. There, on the check that will pay someone's rent so his family can have safe harbor.
Often the light of this simple and profound awareness of how much you really matter to the rest of us is eclipsed as you focus attention on what is missing, the deficits, the horizons you never reach. It may seem as if everything is working against you. You may be able to think only of the mistake you made this morning, the disease that threatens you, or the words that pound against your heart in betrayal. In these moments you need to find refuge in the dark corners of your heart and solace in your own mercy. In these moments your tears can soften the tight shell that defends you. In these moments there can be a breaking apart and a breaking open so the holiness of your life can be released. These are not moments of weakness. These vulnerable, almost unbearable moments cultivate the garden in which grace can grow.
Recent findings in neuroscience teach us that our brains have the capacity to grow throughout our lives. Even after we grow up, we can grow forward. We grow through difficulties, through adversity and joy, through kindness and challenge, through beloveds and betrayers. It is our nature to grow - to become more intelligent, more fertile, wiser and more resilient.
It is all that life asks of you really: to grow what you were given, the spot of grace that is who you truly are; to allow the seeds in you to blossom in the light of the life you are experiencing: to cultivate this garden and bless the forces that have been the fertilizer, the rain, and the hoe; to open your hands and release the fruit of your existence.
You don't need money to do this. The moments you are given are your true wealth. You don't need power, influence or fame. The sunlight brings the power; the wind carries the influence. And as for fame, well, when you allow yourself to notice all those hands that have made your growth possible, you will also recognize what you have made possible for countless others - and how famous you already are. In this very moment, one of those others may be telling a story about how you helped them grow forward.
Second excerpt from "spot of grace" by Dawna Markova, PhD
cocreator of Random Acts of Kindness
As I sat and pondered this excerpt it came to me the myriad women in my life who've helped shape who I am from infancy to now...it is a tad overwhelming!
All I can say is this...without those voices, laps, homes, hearts in which to roost for a moment or a night...I am eternally grateful. What is even more overwhelming to me is that I can hardly remember a male counterpart who played such a power place in my life for me...sad, but too true. And perhaps it is why I love Jesus the Christ so much, Buddha so much, Red Cloud, Tecumsa, Chief Seattle and Martin Luther King so much, Wayne Dyer so much, Albert Einstein and on and on...they have planted seeds within me that I know have helped my garden grow. And much more recently my brother blogger Abuelo "Dawn Wolf" who stood as a warrior when I was being attacked. For I too, even in my Warrior Woman, mode need that male balance in my life...I long for my soul to remember those men in past lives who taught me that power along with the women.
It has been and will always be my hope that I have made a difference for being a voice for women who have not the power within to seek their voice to scream for help in the dark night of their souls...to empower women who are beginning on a new and sometimes frightful journey into themselves and their surroundings.
It has been and will always be my hope to make a difference for children who long have been silenced by our society simply because they are children...to bring respect to that small voice who cannot possible be heard among the adults all deciding what is best ....
So with those thoughts I leave you just now...my heart is full of tears for all that I left standing on the side of the dusty roads as I traveled along but then fills back up again when I think of all the beauty given me by the wondrous Sisters here within this group and the many I know elsewhere who helped shape who I am today. Sometimes I took the road less traveled and sometimes not. But it all has been my 'spot of grace.'
